Credit Bureaus Removing Tax Lien
Info from Credit Reports
Credit Bureaus removing Tax Lien information on Credit Reports
March 26, 2018
Tax Lien information has been a part of credit reports from all 3 major credit reporting agencies, however, after April 16, 2018, TransUnion will no longer provide this information on their reports. This change is in an effort to better comply with NCAP - the National Consumer Assistance plan standards, established in 2017 by the 3 major credit reporting agencies (TransUnion, Equifax and Experian).
The other 2 agencies are expected to follow suit and stop reporting tax liens sometime in April 2018 as well. Because of these changes, when clients order credit reports from AAA Credit Screening Services, they will no longer show any tax lien information on the reports.
Historically tax lien information has assisted creditors in determining the likelihood of applicants being able to afford credit extended to them, and tax liens would have been an indicator of lack of possible funds, even though their income and debt level indicated that they would be able to afford additional credit.
Clients that used tax lien information in their decision making can still obtain this information by ordering County Civil Reports that will provide them with information regarding civil claims against applicants including claims, suits, judgements and tax liens filed against them by other individuals or corporations.
