AAA Credit Screening Services is an E-Verify employer agent and is offering I-9 verification services on behalf of employers during the employment background check process.

What is I-9 Verification?

"Form I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. All U.S. employers must ensure proper completion of Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States. This includes citizens and noncitizens."

Why is I-9 Verification Important?

The law requires employers to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all their employees. Failing to do so can be found in violation of these laws and the company can be held liable under civil and criminal penalties. Original I-9 forms for all current employees are required to be kept on file (and for 3 years from the date of hire or 1 year after former employees leave, whichever is longer) in case they are called for inspection.

Not maintaining proper I-9 forms can cause employers to be fined for violations. Knowingly hiring and continuing to employ ineligible workers can cause employers to be fined and barred from federal contracts and government benefits.

• Penalties for failing to produce I-9 forms range from $110 to $1,100 per violation.

• Penalties for knowingly hiring and continuing to employ ineligible workers range from $375 to $16,000 per violation.

What do I need to provide to start running I-9 Verifications?

The following information is required by the government to get signed up to start running I-9 verifications:

• Company name

• Full physical address

• Mailing address if different from physical address

• Employer ID (EIN)

• Total number of employees

• Total Employer Sites

• NIACS code

• Company point of contact (full name and e-mail address)
