10 Frequently Asked Questions about Employment Screening

  1. When I request a credit report, there is no score, why?

It is illegal for a credit score to be provided for employment purposes. Employment Credit Reports contain the following consumer identifiers: address information, employment information, public record information, other name used, and credit history showing how financial obligations are handled.

  2. Why can it take up to 3 days for Employment Verifications?

All employment verifications are done via telephone, fax or email and requires a response from the current/previous employer. Our representatives will continue to attempt contact with the employers for at least 3 business days.

  3. Why would an applicant have to provide current/previous employment information?

Unfortunately there is no unified data base that contains all employment records. Only information provided by the applicant can be verified.

  4. The applicant disclosed that they have a criminal record, why would it not show up on the report?

Reports provided by AAA Credit Screening Services will only show offenses committed within the past 7 years.

  5. What is the difference between the criminal reports that AAA offers?

    • Countywide Criminal – Reports on misdemeanor or felonies in specified county court records
    • Statewide Criminal – Reports on crimes committed in specified state.
    • Nationwide Criminal – Reports crimes committed by the applicant throughout the United States.
    • Federal Criminal – Reports records of crimes that were prosecuted in federal court such as tax evasion, fraud, and embezzlement, mail & wire fraud and more.

  6. Can AAA verify salary?

This varies according to the applicant's employer/company policy, salary information may or may not be released. Often companies will not disclose salary information over the phone, but once a signed release has been submitted to applicant employer, they can release the salary information in writing.

  7. What information needs to be obtained from an applicant to verify?

We must have the applicant’s name, date of birth, current address, SSN, and signature. We have forms that can be provided for applicants to complete. When we are verifying employment information, we need company name and phone number at the least. Any additional information can be useful.

  8. What is the process if employers use third party vendors such as The Work Number, UConfirm, or Verify Advantage to verify information?

There would typically be an additional charge for employment verification services which use third party vendors. If the employer uses services similar to the ones mentioned, AAA Credit Screening will notify our client for approval of additional charges before processing the request.

  9. Why is employment verification important?

Verifying employment offers peace of mind in a world of uncertainty where it is becoming increasingly common for applicants to misrepresent current and previous employment.

  10. How do you verify employment if an applicant is self-employed?

With self-employed individuals, we are able to verify this information by running an income check verification. This report comes from the Internal Revenue Service. There is a separate charge for this report, but allows our client to confirm self-employment.
